Why So....much Fun?

I remember when "Batman Begins" came out, and as I sat there in the dark theatre my smile just kept getting bigger as I thought to myself "Finally they got got it right!". At the time that was the best Batman movie ever made. It was set in a "real world" for lack of a better term, it was faithful and respectful of the source material and most of all Joel Schumacher and George Clooney were nowhere close to it. So going into the theatre last night with the Hetero-life mate to see THE MOST anticipated movie of the summer(and maybe the year so far) I had me some expectations. I was NOT disappointed.

Director Christopher Nolan has out done himself with "The Dark Knight". This movie is BIG, and one word that keeps going around is epic and it just so much the perfect word. There are so many layers to the story, you almost have to see it twice just to get everything. Christian Bale is great as Batman/Bruce Wayne as he was before, but really the performance that everyone will talk about is that ,of course, of Health Ledger as The Joker. Ledger's Joker is really truly an outstanding performance, he so perfectly captured the true essence of The Joker in a way that I am not sure if it can ever be topped. Nolan also did a great job of addressing the relationship between Batman and The Joker, it comes down to they need each other. I don't want to go to much into the story but this movie was head and shoulders above "Batman Begins" it does so many things so well.

There is one thing though, I can see how people(those that are fans of the big action movie) might walk away a little disappointed. If you watch any big summer blockbuster it always has that big action sequence that makes you go "WOW", you know like in "Superman Returns" when he rescues the plane, or the big final epic battle in "Transformers", this is a character driven piece, well written, well directed and superbly acted, but it doesn't have that big popcorn-summerblockbuster-wow-thing and that is perfectly fine. It doesn't need it This movie is what a well written story arc in a Batman comic was like. This movie could very well be the best, most epic, comic book movie ever. period. (Until Watchmen comes out next year!..lol)Stop reading and go see this movie..
