If the World was perfect....
In a perfect world I would have woken up this morning in a hotel room, awoken by the muffled "hustle and bustle" of the Vancouver city streets below me. My head slightly foggy from the after concert beers at the Roxy, my voice stll half gone from shouting lyrics and screaming after seeing the mighty Tragically Hip the night before at the Commodore Ballroom, craving the Denny's breakfast in the near future and content in the fact that I have:
A. Seen a concert that has been on my "To See Before I die" list and
B.That I have hopefully turned the Hetero-life mate, into more of a fan of this great, truly Canadian, band.
But it's not a perfect world, as I woke up in my own bed, realized Bono and U2 were still around, and saw that my beloved Habs lost last night. But there is hope.
You see I'll tell you a secret..I love the Hip. I have seen them 3 times already and will share the music with any who listen. They are a true piece of the Canadian pop culture landscape, A band that embraces being Canadian and all that comes with it. Have they had that big success outside the 10 provinces(and 2 territories)not in a big way that most bands would want to break in the States, but that's ok with them. I think it could be because they take chances with the music they make, constantly evolving. Starting with the big hit in 1989 "New Orleans is sinking" right up to the newest single" In View" from the new album "World Container" I challenge you to find an album that is like the one before it or after it...But I have gone off in a tangent...
Back to telling you why there is still hope. The whole plan was to take Dlae a guy who will tell you how much he hates the Hip. He thinks Gord Downie whines alot when he sings and has always ridiculed my love of The Hip.
Now over the years he has said that, No,they are not his favorite band but he just does it to get to me. His problem is that the only stuff he hears is the stuff on the radio and the odd song when he's in my car, this has made him jaded. But I convinced him to go to a concert with me when I heard that the Hip were playing 4 nights at the Commodore Ballroom. Disappointment set in when we couldn't get tickets, but then a week later they announced that they were going to play Victoria, we were going damn it. So he ordered tickets(we have floor seats)and his conversion to being a Hip fan is under way. He even downloaded the new album. I am very much looking forward to this concert, but I have to wait till January. I have never wanted Christmas to get here and be done with so badly.

Why did I download it?
Because there's no way in hell I'm paying money for that shit.
I can't wait until they play that whiny songs where he talks about losing something.
Which song was that?
Oh yeah - ALL OF THEM.
Later.
