Freedom....

After a long month of working longer hours than I was used to(286 hours for the month by the time my last 5 hours are up tomorrow, the average 9-5 person will work 160 in a month), being away from home for Christmas(I still haven't even opened a real present or anything)only having 3 days off in the month and living in a hotel for what was supposed to be a week, but having that turned into the enitre stay here in Fort St.John. After all of that.As of 11am (mountain time, 10am pacific)I am done. Time to get back on a plane and go home. A newly carpeted apartment, Christmas dinner, and A little trip to see The Hip with the Hetro-life mate in Victoria await my return. God I am tired...can't wait for the plane ride home......

Rest in Peace Soul Brother #1

I awoke this morning still in a hotel, still exhausted and wishing I was at home. But it's kinda been like that for a good week now. I almost forgot it was Christmas morning actually. I think being away from home on this day will do that to you. So the Brother (from the same mother) and I made breakfast and drank coffee and baileys, then choco-milk and baileys and exchanged gifts. I am now the proud owner of Batman the animated series Season 1, and he the proud owner of Transformers the movie Special edition. Must say I was jealous buying it for him cause I wanted it..But I digress. We went for dinner with the other people here that have no where else to go at the Head managers house, where we played poker all afternoon and ate a great dinner. I do hope all that read this had a great day as well. Dlae give me a call at the hotel bastard. To the home office. I didn't get a chance to call this morning but you did cross my mind and I hope that all is well and you had a good day.

With all this cheer however,I was shocked and a little let down when I read that the great James Brown passed away today."The Godfather of Soul" and the self-descrobed hardest working man in show business, James Brown was a musical revolutionary. He redefined a sound and genre of music,he made and was the definiton of funk and influenced some of the great artist of the generation. Everyone from Mick Jagger to Michael Jackson to Eddie Murphy all owe him a debt of gratitude. The music world will miss the spirit of James Brown. Sure he had is bad times(being in Prison and leading cops on car chases) but the mark that he left on the world with his music will forever be remebered.

12 days till the flight home....

This lady says to me."Your from Campbell River right?"..My first response that came to my mind was"That's right Beyotch..Island Represent, you better recognize Yo!"..But I went with.."And I used to play hockey in your drive way.." And with that I had a brief conversation with the mother of a guy I went to school with. Why is that significant?.. That moment was the most interesting thing to happen so far here in the frozen north.(though not so frozen today..I think it's only like 0 degrees today..)

I have been working a lot and have only had 2 days off since I got here(today being the second. But last night the junkie did get his fix as I played poker. Dumbass structure they play with up here, but I made it work for me played really well, and would have won the $140 dollar pool last night if not for a miracle card on the river, after I went all in on a suited J\9, oh well I was the only one that didn't have to but back in.

Tonight is the Christmas party for the restaurant, kinda have to go but not really feeling it. Oh well, it will get me out of the hotel, which let me tell you(I have been staying here for a two weeks now and am going to be staying here for the duration of my stay here) I was kinda looking forward to staying in. Seemed like a great thing, fresh sheets everyday, fresh towels everyday and you come home from work and the room is magically clean. But I am getting a little stir crazy. No car, have to walk everywhere and this isn't like Victoria or Vancouver where you can walk a lot of places. You need a vehicle here.

That really is it, that is the update.....Only 12 days left...Then maybe I can get some Christmas shopping done..I'm sure everyone I am buying for doesn't want wale-Mart gift cards...But I do have a list for you...

Top five Favorite things to Fort St residents:

1. Energy Drinks- I don't know what the hell it issue could just be the people I work with but these people drink enough "Full Throttle" that they personally keep the company in business I think...They drink it like people in Cumberland drink Lucky..

2. Crappy Music- Mudvayne, afi, Tim McGraw and Crazyfrog, Billy Talent are all among the top five favorite recording artist among the the people I have met..almost makes me wish for some U2 to come on the discplayer....almost...

3. Poker...they aren't very good but hey works for me...And that's just not me being cocky or anything..The people I have played just really aren't that good...

4. Going out for dinner- Every restaurant in this town is busy..no matter what night...and the favourite place..the good old Boston Pizza...heavan help me....

5. Drinking- Really these people have nothing else to do.. It's cold, everything else but pubs, restarants and bars close at like 10pm. Even the Timmy's closes at 1030...god I need a coffee, I haven't had one since I got here, yes Dlae you read that right.....

Fear and Loathing across the northern plains...

Barren, Isolated, Cold, Desolate, are all words than describe the enviroment that I am in right now. I have never really had to deal with snow this long and it sucks. Yup this place is the quintiessential Northern Canadain town. Nothing to do but drink and work it seems. People go to the same movie here mutliple times not becase they really like the choice of 5 movies they have but because there is nothing else to do, that says alot right there. I mean I have gone to a movie multiple time but that's becasue it was good, I had a choice. The coolest place to go for dinner or like pre-bar drinks is Boston Pizza, and the bar is a cramped smoke filled hole of a country bar called Loony Tunes. This is the only place I have seen where the smoking room seems bigger than the rest of the bar. This place makes Courntey look classy... Only 19 more days......
