I can't do it...Just can't be done...

Ever since I moved on with life and got the ipod, I had a mission in mind. I started to formulate my plan of attack, the best way to start the mission at hand, and achieve success. That mission you ask?....To pick my 100 favorite songs and create the ultimate playlist and to them put that list here for all 5 of you readers to see.

At the outset this seemed like an easy thing to do, my only limitation was to not include too many songs from any particular band or artist.

So I started going through my itunes that has about 90% percent of my cd collection in it, and making a playlist. This is where the mission that I had picked for myself showed it's self to be the daunting task that it was. I soon had like 200 songs in the playlist and I didn't even get all the way through the collection yet. I started having arguments with myself(that sounds a little strange and unhealthy doesn't it..) I found my self saying well "How can I not include Something- by The Beatles, or Happy by The RollingStones, or Grace,Too by The Tragically Hip. And really I can't decide between In the Ghetto or Suspicious Minds by Elvis..Include them both...But then I would have to take out
the Dave Matthews band Version of all Along the Watchtower from their live in Chicago album...This sucks."

This is when I realized that it can't be done. Top ten movies of all time? Sure that's easy but to go actually go through the thousands upon thousands of songs one knows and to pick the favorite 100? Impossible. It would change by the next day anyway and would never be a complete and true list. So I gave up and just loaded the ipod with everything. Oh well, at least I tried I guess...

Playlist of the Day:

1. Square One- Tom Petty
2. The Only Answer- Mike Doughty
3. Long Time Running -The Tragically Hip
4. I am mine- Pearl Jam
5. Little District- Sublime
6. Milk- Kings Of Leon
7. Best Of What's Around- Dave Matthews Band
8. Creep - Stone Temple Pilots
9. Just Dropped in(To see what condition..)-Kenny Rodgers and The First edition(Youtube Clip Of The Day)10.Going In the Right Direction- Robert Randolph and The Family Band

Time for a change old Friend...

I still remember the day we met. I kinda noticed you from across the room, the one shiny beacon of hope among the other items on display that didn't really attract me at all.But you were different, something I had been looking for, so I decided to bid on you then and there. I paid a little more than I had hoped for, but it was still a deal. You have served me well since that day and we have been through alot together. From quiet mornings at the Moka House and Tim Horton's reading of Dubya's crazy adventures in the sandbox, dental surgeries and trips to the Home Office and most recently to Fort Saint John, you were a constant companion and a trusted friend.

Things have changed however now, and really it's not you it's me. I have grown , and feel it's time for a change, I need more than you are capable of providing. It's not that you don't do the job anymore but I need a change. So I have decided to move on as I have met some one else who has things I am looking for and I didn't know I wanted till now. I think deep down I resisted the move, hoping to make it work. I think you know where I am going with this... You know the new one. I can tell right now you wanna say "How could you, Bono supports those things?", I guess its just time. I need the bigger Storage capacity, the 1000 songs that it can hold are excatly what I need, I can use it in the car when all you could do was sit on the seat or in a bag, not to be used.

I am sorry but the ipod nano is who I need to be with now. You have served me well, my Sony discman, but I am moving on.....

It was just as good the fourth time...

It finally happened. I was finally able to convince the Heterolife mate to go see one if my all time favorite bands ,The Tragically Hip. An event 10 years in the making, and in my eyes the Band didn't disappoint. Gord and the boys were in fine form once again and on tour to promote the new(and very good album)World Container with a 27 city Canadian tour with The Sadies, a band out of Toronto(think Blue Rodeo with more fiddle and mandolin and cow bell). The concert was good, they played stuff I still hadn't heard live, even with this being the 4th time I have seen them. The Save-on-Foods memorial center is a nice place to see a show, intimate, just you and 4 thousand of your closest friends. This is the set list for the show:
1: The Lonely End Of The Rink
2: Courage
3: Twist My Arm
4: Gus: The Polar Bear From Central Park
5: Luv (Sic)
6: It's A Good Life If You Don't Weaken
7: In View
8: Nautical Disaster
9: Long Time Running
10: Pretend
11: Fireworks
12: At The Hundredth Meridian
13: 38 Years Old
14: The Kids Don't Get It
15: Gift Shop
16: Scared
17: Yer Not The Ocean
18: Three Pistols
19: New Orleans Is Sinking
encore
20: C'mon Everybody
21: Family Band
22: Locked In The Trunk Of A Car

But sometimes the real interesting thing about going to a concert, or anywhere really, is the people watching that can occur, and this was no exception. There was the usual drunk girls dancing and the guys who just stand with there ,arms crossed bobbing there heads. But this night we also had DNG2RIF.

It all started when they announced some contest for Canuck fans that they could win a weekend package of some sorts to see the Vancouver canucks take on the Detroit Redwings. whooppee doo. But then "Fred" as I shall call him, upon hearing the words "RedWings" proceeds to stand up and flash his Detroit colors and like he was AT the hockey game right then. Dude took of the Jersey he was wearing and started waving it around, getting told to sit down and prompting a chorus of "Detroit Sucks" and "Vancouver Rules!" chants. It was actually kinda priceless at the time, but it then got better.

He then proceeds to go over to the boards, as we were on the floor, and tried to start the wave. I must say I had never seen the wave at a concert before, still haven't but it was fun to watch him try. Security then came over and tried to reason with "Fred" to get him to sit down and stop jumping around everywhere. This eventually worked, and the Hip came on stage. But then I noticed something, this show was sold out but he amazingly had like 2 seats on each side that were empty, a ton of extra room, that didn't go to waste. I remember commenting to Dlae that it was planned segregation, like shows in Georgia in the 60's. But "Fred" was an animal, he was like in his own little mosh pit, slam dancing (with him self mind you) and jumping off chairs and stuff. Priceless and funny but at least he was having fun.

After the concert the beer was flowing quite freely, as we drank in some place called Sporano's with people we knew at the concert. Over all the trip was very successful, I had dinner at my favorite restaurant with good company, saw The Hip, got drunk. The only downside is i didn't get to go to my favorite Breakfast place as it was closed for Staff Holidays...fuckers I wanted my Classic Benny....

P.S.- I didn't get to post in time about the end of the year and stuff and won't now as it feels like the time has passed but I did want to share my list of the best cd's last year(in no particular order)in my opinion anyway..

1. Modern Times- Bob Dylan
2. Pearl Jam- Pearl Jam
3. Wolfmother- Wolfmother
4. The Information- Beck
5. Broken Boy Soilders- The Racounteurs
6. World Container- The Tragically Hip
7. Chemical City- Sam Roberts

..so what if my list is only seven long....
